Vivienne trained
at Camberwell College of Art in the 1970' in ceramics and silversmithing,
with drawing a strong influence throughout the course. She divides
her time between teaching at Barnet College of Further Education
and working in her studio nearby, making an individual range of
salt glazed stoneware, ash and Shino glazed stoneware, and also
one-off sculptural pieces suitable for either interior or exterior
settings. Vivienne's inspiration comes from her love of the sea,
sun, coast and mountains and frequent trips to Spain where she spends
her time walking, drawing, and looking at pots. Vivienne's love
of pottery and food has led her to produce an individual range of
tableware suitable for cooking, serving and storing food in. Most
of her pots are thrown on an old wooden momentum kick wheel in her
studio which overlooks her tranquil garden setting.
Vivienne's current
work falls into three main categories:-
Salt Glazed Stoneware: An individual range of tableware which has
been salt glazed in her small gas kiln. This technique produces
a distinctive orange-peel textured surface with beautiful earth
colours from pale cream to orange / brown and hues of cobalt blue
depending on the slip used.
Stoneware Reduction Fired: A larger kiln allows for a greater range
of tableware using ash glazes made from burning wood and Shino glaze
with subtle slip underneath.
One-off sculptural pieces, Raku and commissions: These individual
works are suitable for interior or exterior settings. Works have
included fountains, bird baths and tiles.
Vivienne exhibits
and sells her ceramics and paintings through galleries and exhibitions
both locally and throughout the country. She is also a member of
the Craft Potter's Association, London Potters, Barnet Collection
of Potters and Barnet Guild of Artists. She runs various courses
in her studio including salt firing, Raku and throwing.
Visitors are
welcome to her studio but please telephone for an appointment.
